Tracing Patterns
Why is tracing skill important for toddlers?
At a first glance, it seems to be an easy skill as it is a matter of copying other lines, and that is it. Really? However, the fact is different. It is not only a matter of just copying. Tracing is an important skill for toddlers between 2 and 3 years. It helps to develop:
1- Pre-writing skills
When your toddler starts tracing some straight, curved or zigzag lines, he can learn the first step of writing letters and numbers. It will provide him with strong and refined movements that helps in handwriting later.
2-Fine motor skills
Tracing is the best way to practice fine motor skills. It helps to strengthen the coordination between your toddler’s fingers, hand and eyes while holding the pencil and tracing.
3- Concentration and focus skills
As your toddler uses the pencil to trace, he has to focus on what he is doing. He has to keep on moving and concentrating on his work. So, this helps to develop his memory and attention.
Finally, it is a good idea to let your kids trace in order to develop their skills and enjoy their times as well.
